After HMNZS WAIKATO’s commissioning in Belfast, NI, 1966, it sailed to Portsmouth for testing of various equipments before sea trials, etc. It was noticed that the mainmast had only 3 fitted AJE UHF antenna’s. The question was asked how could we get another AJE antenna fitted to the mainmast, just to make it look right both port and starboard! The end result was a “rabbit run” to HMS Belfast that was laid up in Portsmouth at the time and “borrowed” one from there permantly!
